Mahmoud Chouki New Orleans Concert reviews
Over rehearsed
My favorite shows were the early ones, when they were hungry and unscripted. I've always been a big fan of Mahmoud Chouki, having seen shows in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.
The Birmingham show was so scaled down and diluted, like drinking a flat soda. It was like a children's school play, scripted and controlled. Birmingham is starved for non-rap/hip hop venues, with over half of the crowd being Mahmoud Chouki Virgins.
The SunTrust Park show was amazing, with almost 42,000 people in the new stadium creating a great atmosphere. The Birmingham show, on the other hand, only had a capacity of around 17,000, and the age group varied greatly.
Mahmoud Chouki's show has been downgraded to RATED "G", with filler added such as tribal drumming and a cover of "Sweet Home Alabama". They covered Prince in Minneapolis, but the show ended on a political note, which seemed out of place for a rock-n-roll show.
Lastly, Mahmoud Chouki has released a significant amount of music, yet they still feel the need to add filler into their show. I support their efforts and music, but I wish they could keep the show raw and energized like in their beginnings.
